URBAN DESIGN SYSTEMS HAS A VARIETY OF MATERIALS AVAILABLE FOR STREET FURNITURE. IN SUMMARY, OPTIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS...
EXTERNAL APPLICATIONS: We advise using either weathering steel, uncoated aluminium or powder coated aluminium.
Our laser cut concepts can add an extra dimension of texture, colour and design to your project and include decorative screens, artwork, sculptural works and other garden elements.
Urban Design Systems manufacture products using quality materials and finishes that can handle the harsh elements and rigours of public usage that urban furniture is continuously exposed to.
In order to maintain the integrity of these materials and finishes however it is recommended that some basic maintenance be carried out.
Mild steel (300+) is used as the major structural elements in all metal framed products.
Finishes: Mild steel elements are hot dip galvanised in accordance with the Australian Standard AS/NZS 4680:2006 Hot dip galvanised (zinc) coatings on fabricated ferrous articles. Where painted finishes are required Dulux Duralloy® FG powder coating* offers excellent durability and resistance to abrasion.
Maintenance: The effects of ultra violet light, pollution, dirt, grime and salt deposits can all accumulate on a coated surface over time. To extend the effective life of powder coating or hot dipped galvanising, a regular maintenance program should be implemented for the removal of any residues. As a general rule, cleaning should take place every six months. However, in areas where pollutants are more prevalent, especially in coastal or industrial regions, a cleaning program should be carried out on a more frequent basis (i.e. every three months).
In order to clean your coated surface firstly carefully remove any loose deposits with a wet sponge then use a soft non-abrasive brush or cloth and a mild household detergent solution to remove dust, salt and other deposits. Rinse off detergent with clean fresh water. The use of bore water for cleaning is not recommended due to the mineral content which can tarnish the coating and may cause coating failure.

Urban Design Systems is committed to supporting responsible forest management practices and supplies Good Wood select grade Hardwood.
Finishes: Timber as standard is supplied with a two coat water-resistant, non-toxic plant based decking oil finish containing only biologically and environmentally responsible ingredients.
For customers requiring a painted finish, Dulux Weathershield* water-based gloss acrylic coatings offers a tough flexible finish with excellent resistance to weathering and very low level of chalking, colour change and dirt pick up.
Hardwood timber left untreated and unmaintained will naturally weather to a silver grey appearance.
